Jennifer’s Tips: Food

Making the Most of Your Conference

Last time I mentioned “eat good food.” Over the years, getting meals for hungry speakers — such as lunch that has to arrive at 12: 28 before they go backstage at 12:52 — has brought food logistics into sharp focus.

Here are some tips for the food lover (i.e., everyone) on how to eat well in Atlanta.

Is there food near the venue?

Yes! First up, there are two restaurants and a coffee shop in the hotel. Below is a map of the Renaissance Waverly area (our conference venue), along with the list of nearby restaurants.

Groups

If you want to take a group, reserve early!

The App

Take advantage of the app. It allows you to schedule your own meetings and events.

If you still doubt you can get good food near the conference, meet Brett and James.

What if I need coffee?

We provide free coffee, usually located near the vendor hall or registration desk. Depending on the hotel, wait times can vary for refills.

Do you care what it tastes like? Starbucks is 290 feet away, right across the street.

Note: To reduce my risk of coffee-free mornings to zero, I make sure I have coffee stocked in my room for the early mornings, and usually bring my own instant coffee, like Via.

I have known others who would bring their own coffee makers and coffee. Honestly. See previous post about packing light.

Need food, any food?

I always bring protein bars and other snacks to keep myself going when time is short.

If you have a Costco membership, you can have great snacks and still pack light! Costco is a 12-minute walk, accessible via a skybridge over the highway.

Note: Expect that it will take extra time to get food or coffee. There is likely to be a line both for the elevator and the coffee shop. Order early so you have a cushion if there is a back up.
